The Snowman nebula (Gum 6, Sharpless 2-302) is a faint Hα emission nebula in the constellation Puppis at around 3033 light years away. The nebula is light on details with the only major detail being the obvious dark lane running through it. There is also a small faint reflection nebula (blue region) located at the bottom right corner of the nebula that adds a nice extra color dimension to this otherwise all-red nebula! The nebula emits only Hα so a narrowband composite is not possible. To introduce color, the Hα is blended with RGB color data to give a HαRGB composite.
