The full moon as you'll never see it - a mosaic of the waxing moon.
Imaging or viewing a full moon through a telescope is always a bit of a disappointment. This is because, from our perspective on Earth, the Sun is shining directly onto the moon from behind us so the lack of shadows creates a low contrast surface. To see the surface details, it’s always best to view the moon during the waxing (or waning) phase along the day/night boundary called the terminator. With that in mind, I set about imaging the moon along the terminator during the waxing stage and then stitching together the images (117 in total) to create what looks to be a full moon but has the details and contrast of a waxing moon! The full-sized image is ~200 megapixel with resolution estimated to be under five kilometers (selection of clos-up crops shown). A larger print (A2 or A1) is recommended to make the most of this level of detail.
